  • Obanzai style - so much attention to detail, hospitality, loving kindness, everything feels homemade, best vibes from the kitchen staff. Right next to the station so it was a solution to perfection for our time and logistics constraints (though we didn’t want to leave!). Everything was delicious - we had sashimi, miso, egg omelette, bibimbap, plum wine. Price is beyond reasonable. What more could one ask for?

  • Very glad we had been here, will definitely revisit. Like others mentioned, they know basic English but they don’t have English menu. I would recommend people whom know basic idea of Japanese food + using Google translation for the menu. Not everything can be easily explained in English. Our party really love miso soup! It’s not too salty or sweet. It’s perfect. Must try! IMHO, the more simple a dish is, the more difficult to make it delicious. A bit regret that I didn’t tell them how much we love the soup. Taste wise is more close to family style, not fancy but very good. I love it because it’s a bit different from other Japanese fine dining restaurant. Portion wise is small but perfect for us. (3 Adults, 2 of us are elder, 1 of us is mid 30s male) We ordered 3 dishes (beef sukiyaki + grill salmon cheek + mushroom tempera) and upgraded set (with rice and miso soup). Total just 6800 yen.

  • We had one night to experience what this place has to offer, so instead of ordering one or two dishes with rice, we ordered several with no rice so we could try as many dishes as possible. Every dish was amazing. We particularly loved the radish and spare rib stew. The menu was in hand written Japanese but our host went out of her way with the few words of English she knew to try to explain what they had and as well when we made the bookimg for this place. All we could offer for all of this was a poor "oishii" in the few bits of Japanese we knew which is a poor description for the care and flavour in the food and how well we were taken care of.

  • So good. The dishes are displayed on the counter, so you can see before you order. The counter looks down into the kitchen, so you can see everything. Their closing time is their last order time, so they were accepting new customers even 3 minutes before closing. We left half They prepared food to go for customers who suddenly realised they had to leave to catch their bullet trains. We had sukiyaki (beef and tofu stewed in a sweet broth), stewed ribs with soft Japanese radish, and slices fried tofu with a filling of melted cheese and vegetables. All very nice.

  • This modern-setting izakaya is located near to Karuizawa train station. Met a local couple and was told that this izakaya is quite popular. The seating numbers quite limited, mainly counter seating and a large table-seating of 5. We were lucky to find 2 seats for our dinner. Though we are tourists who understands very little Japanese language, we were given equal attention as other diners, and I appreciate such service. Enjoyed the great food, Japanese sake, dessert and the conversation with new people, so thank you to the 3 kind ladies who run the izakaya.

  • The atmosphere is very warm similar to those previous comments. Food is home made kind, not expected to be those shopping mall large restaurant style. The staff are very nice (mama type lol) . They know basic English and eager to communicate and explain to you the details. Will return if have time.

  • Home cooking izakaya at it's best. They don't have English menu nor speak any English but otherwise it's quite a good mid priced place very close to the train and the BarMan
